Getting the right financial assistance for you
August 4, 2015
Hi. This might seem a bit out of the blue, but I'm feeling like my MS is making me go broke. I mean, I knew having a chronic condition was going to be no picnic, but this is one problem I didn't realize I'd have to face. Any suggestions for help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Nurse Karen replies:
Of course, your relapsing MS medication likely has a co-pay assistance program. But the MS One to One Nurses also know lots of places where help is available that's not related to co-pays.
In fact, there are many resources that can help people with MS. And a surprising number of them can help you in ways you may not have even heard of.
The National MS Society can often help by paying things like a utility bill or a rent payment, which in turn will free up money for you to pay for your treatment. They may even be able to help you with having your vehicle modified with hand controls or a lift if you need them to maintain your independence.
The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America can provide you with free items such as cooling vests or even a room air conditioner. Some YMCA locations offer free memberships called scholarships that let you do water aerobics at local pools.
The bottom line is that there are resources that we can help connect you to. Availability of funds is in constant flux, so check back often if you don't find what you want.
